Two free online twilight CPD sessions for school-based music professionals in the East Midlands – Tuesday 29 and Wednesday 30 June, 4.00-6.00pm

Music Education Hubs East Midlands (MEHEM) and Music Mark are working together to provide these two CPD evenings packed with sessions on a broad range of topics, all accessible online.

Access to this event is free to music educators in the East Midlands, subsidised by the music hubs of MEHEM.

Tuesday 29 June – Keynote presentation

4.00-6.00pm | Keynote presentation by Mark Phillips Senior HMI (Ofsted): Why just ‘doing’ music isn’t enough.

This keynote will be followed by phase specific case studies by school colleagues from across the East Midlands as well as the opportunity to discuss the keynote further in breakout rooms.


Wednesday 30 June – Sessions

4.00-4.20pm | Intro session: Body percussion warm ups from around the world. Ollie Tunmer from Beat Goes On will take you on a whirlwind journey of fun, high energy body percussion warm-ups, based on rhythms from a variety of cultures.

4.25-5.25pm | A choice of sessions:

  • How to be an anti-racist music educator – Sharon Jagdev Powell
  • Composing & Improvising in SEND Contexts – Ben Sellers
  • Let’s keep Early Years music fresh and vibrant! – Sue Nicholls
  • Music technology in the primary classroom – Kelly-Jo Foster-Peters
  • Positive Inclusive Music (Primary) – Claire Cheetham
  • Musical Theatre as a Vehicle for Learning – Jonathan Francis
  • Beatboxing Basics – Shay Sharma
  • Why Classroom Music? Discovering the purpose of music in schools – Simon Toyne
  • Body Percussion with Literacy – Ollie Tunmer (Beat Goes On)

5.30-6.00pm | Closing session: End the 2-day virtual CPD on a high by joining award-winning tenor, choral director and vocal coach Charles MacDougall for an interactive, energising and joyful singing session.
