Led by Carl Cole.
In this CPD, we will look at how free improvisation can provide a non-verbal outlet for self-expression and emotional processing.
The session will be a practical one, with some explorative music activities. In the session we will cover the following points:
- What is improvisation? How traditional improvisation contrasts with “free” improvisation, and how we can utilise both for different outcomes.
- The power of wonder. How play and exploration can provide incentive in the right conditions and the effect it has on the individual.
- The reward cycle. Why do we keep practicing? How do we start this cycle?
- Music as a vehicle for expression and emotional resilience through improving confidence, self-esteem and general wellbeing.
- Understanding musical “freedom”, opportunities for failure and changing perceptions around reasons for engaging with music (with a look at Pete Stollery’s work “Musical Gift/ Musical Intelligence”)
